2005 Chubb Charity Challenge Raises More Than $1 Million for Charity
HALF MOON BAY, CA, September 30, 2005 – The Sixth Annual Chubb Charity Challenge raised more than $1 million for charities across the United States and Canada.
The Chubb Charity Challenge championship followed 44 regional golf tournaments, which involved more than 1,600 agents and
customers who helped to raise $1,037,000 for charity. Regional tournament winners competed in Half Moon Bay for a purse of
more than $500,000.
Moody & Associates, an agency in Washington, D.C., won the championship, earning a $50,000 donation to charity. The team consisted
of Moody’s Christopher Moody, John Marley, Paul Van Zutphen and Robert Kerth. Second-place finisher Wachovia Insurance Services,
Charlotte, NC, won $45,000 for charity, and DWP/USI of Southern California, Woodland Hills, CA, finished third, winning $40,000.
“With the help of our agents and customers, Chubb is proud to set a new standard in charitable giving. The Chubb Charity Challenge
has become one of the most successful corporate fundraising events,” said Tom Motamed, Chubb’s vice chairman and chief operating
officer. “The recent Gulf Coast tragedies have helped to remind us all of the necessity to donate to charity in times of need.
While the disaster-relief effort is of paramount importance, we are pleased that the Chubb Charity Challenge has been able
to support hundreds of charity organizations across the United States and Canada that help people lead productive and healthy
lives.”
During the tournament, Chubb also donated $25,000 to The First Tee, a nonprofit organization dedicated to teaching children
golf and life skills. On the event’s opening night, members of The First Tee’s San Francisco chapter and their parents participated
in miniature golf putting contests.
Since it began in 2000, the Chubb Charity Challenge has raised more than $4 million for U.S. and Canadian charities. In its
first year, the tournament raised $350,000. Since then, it has raised more money every year.
The member insurers of the Chubb Group of Insurance Companies form a multi-billion dollar organization providing property
and casualty insurance for personal and commercial customers worldwide through 8,000 independent agents and brokers. Chubb’s
global network includes branches and affiliates throughout North America, Europe, Latin America, Asia and Australia.
