New Chubb Tools to Help Organizations Manage Employee Lawsuit Exposure
WARREN, NJ, February 15, 2005 – To help companies, nonprofit organizations, financial institutions, and health care institutions reduce their exposure
to employee lawsuits, the Chubb Group of Insurance Companies has added several new online tools to its Employment Practices
Liability Loss Prevention Program.
The enhanced program now includes ChubbWorksSM, a Web site that provides Chubb customers and insurance agents access to a variety of loss-prevention tools at no charge,
including:
- Model employment policies, procedures and forms;
- Employment practices self-audit checklists for human resources professionals, executive management and supervisors;
- Online training for managers and supervisors on sexual harassment, discrimination and wrongful termination;
- A library offering links to governmental information resources, as well to publications covering such topics as employment
practices liability (EPL) case law, loss prevention, health and wellness, workplace leadership and workplace news; and
- “My Workplace,” a section where employers can store online handbooks, a suggestions box for worksite improvements, a notices
board and a directory of users.
“EPL risk management is more critical than ever before,” said Catherine Padalino, vice president of Chubb & Son and deputy
employment practices liability insurance (EPLI) manager for Chubb Specialty Insurance. “The legal landscape continues to change.
More companies and executives recognize that they are vulnerable to damaging allegations of employment discrimination, wrongful
termination, and sexual harassment.” She added that the median jury award in EPL lawsuits rose 18 percent in 2003 to $250,000,
according to Jury Verdict Research.
Chubb’s Employment Practices Liability Loss Prevention Program also includes a network of more than 120 top law firms, human
resources consulting firms and labor economist statisticians who help companies address specific employment issues. Chubb’s
EPLI customers can hire these firms at preferred rates, with Chubb reimbursing customers for a portion of the cost of services
related to their EPLI coverage.
Chubb’s EPLI customers also have access to a toll-free hot line; a copy of Chubb’s Employment Practices Loss Prevention Guidelines manual; and CheckPoint, a Chubb newsletter written by employment practices experts. Through the hot line, customers can obtain answers to employment
practices liability questions from legal experts. Customers can make an unlimited number of calls to the hotline at no charge.
Chubb offers the complete Employment Practices Liability Loss Prevention Program to all its 50,000 EPLI customers, including
publicly held companies, privately owned companies, financial institutions, nonprofit organizations and health-care institutions.
All components of the EPL loss control program can be accessed through csi.chubb.com/epllossprevention.
“Chubb’s enhanced loss prevention program offers access to information, tools and services that can be critical to all organizations,
especially those that may lack the proper internal resources to cope with potentially dangerous EPL situations,” Padalino
said. “It is now easier for our customers to get the resources they need to help prevent costly employee lawsuits.”
The member insurers of the Chubb Group of Insurance Companies form a multi-billion dollar organization providing property
and casualty insurance for personal and commercial customers worldwide through 8,000 independent agents and brokers. Chubb’s
global network includes branches and affiliates in North America, Europe, Latin America, Asia and Australia.
